16th February 2010 - Newport Club's 90th
Two days after the anniversary date my own club celebrated 90 years of service to local and international communities. We are a lunchtime club so the President and the club Council made a conscious decision to hold these celebrations at lunchtime. A good crowd of more than 50 turned up to help with the celebrations. Fine food, good company and visitors form local clubs (including DGN Donna & Steve) together with a contingent from our mother club Cardiff, all made this a memorable occasion.. We had anecdotes from a few of our more established members, a PHF presentation to Ron, a brand new club scrapbook, historical reports from Cardiff President Michael - even suggesting that the Newport club kidnapped RI founder Paul Harris in 1928 whilst on route to Cardiff - and a birthday cake with a rendition of Happy Birthday to boot. Only ten years to go for the centenary - hope I am still here to be part of it (if I am I will have 36 years of service).
