I left at lunchtime heading for the Heath Hospital to see the Llanishen club in the foyer. They were in fine spirits even though trade was a little slow. I also met President Gwen and met Cardiff Bay's new recruit there.
Off then to Millbrook Primary School, Newport, to meet up with a bus carrying the TfL logo on the back and on the inside. We had some photos taken with the Newport Bus company CEO together with the Head and the School Council. I had to take my coat off to show my End Polio Now shirt and stand in the driving snow whilst the photographer snapped away. Got my first purple pinkie as well.
The four Newport clubs held their celebration dinner tonight with 172 folks sat down. It was a memorable evening. We had an overview of a visit to the recent NID in India and a riveting presentation given by a Lt Colonel of the RAMC on polio in Afghanistan and the work of an army medic in a war zone.
Over 5,000 children were involved with Purple Pinkie in the City of Newport today and, together with the collections the clubs will make at the weekend, they have targeted themselves to raise £10,000.
