Thursday was what we used to call Bonfire Night when I was a lad, the celebration of foiling the plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament, plus other sundry dirty deeds. We found ourselves on Barry Island for the fireworks display put on by the Barry club. This is an extremely well-organised pyrotechnical show with over twenty thousand people turning up, road access to the Island restricted, stalls with Rotarians selling memorabilia and a substantial bucket collection at the end. Carl Kerr led the team and PDG Don masterminded the logistics and was the MC for the event. We had a marvellous vantage point from the Coastguard Station overlooking the firing area towards Friars Point, to the west of Whitmore Bay. The company used this year was Pendragon Fireworks, who are based in Cwmbran, so it was nice to see a company from where we live in action. The pictures give a glimpse of the event, with some shots of the fireworks. The refreshments were very welcome and our thanks go to Brenda for some super pasties and to Griff for the lumpy soup. A great evening where a number of clubs joined in to give support to the Barry club and a good collection was made.
