Sailing in Croatia June 2009

We took the plane from Bristol to Split and arrived in scorching sunshine. After a short taxi ride from Split airport to Trogir we dived into a bar for some necessary light refreshment, awaiting the arrival of Matt with his boat. He had single handed the boat down from Kremik, a four hour run on the engine. The first picture shows Matt bringing Times Bold onto the town quay. We had an altercation with the man in charge of boat berthing who thought we were choosing where to put the boat, which in his job. Hey-ho, maybe it was language problems but he became more friendly when we said that we did want to stay. When he told us the price, which was more than double last year's price we declined and anchored the boat opposite the shipyard you can see in the picture. Things started to get lively in the night when a sudden thunder storm blew up. We had a disturbed hour and a half making sure we were safe as the wind picked up and the light show began.

The weather turned cooler as we set off on the following morning to Solta, an island a few miles off the mainland. We spent a couple of nights here because the wind picked up and kept us in the harbour. The next two picture show an overnight anchorage tucked well into a bay very close to the restaurant we ate at. You can see what a beautiful place Croatia is. The final picture shows a lunch stop in another bay with some very remote cottages and a family who had traveled there in their boat. The weather forecast was for two days of rain so we headed back to Kremik where Times Bold has a permanent berth in the marina. Kremik is very close to a small pretty island town (connected to the mainland by a short causeway) called Pimosten, where we spent some time sitting out the bad weather.
