DG Clayton kicked off after SAA Colin had strutted his stuff with the safety arrangements. President David from the host club of Swansea gave a welcome with PDG JC Williams giving the Invocation. District Secretary Martyn entertained us with the roll-call of clubs and he stunned us all by producing a computer program to instantly calculate the winner of the attendance shield. We all thought that this was magic, mystery and mirrors. One club announced that a large contingent was present, even though their bus had not arrived and its contents were uncertain. It all ended with a smile when at the end of the plenary they were able to confirm the actual numbers. Builth Wells, turned out to be the winners.
Now it was my turn and after Clayton had introduced me I showed the very powerful "Who Needs Rotary" presentation, which was very well received. PRID Keith Barnard Jones gave a moving overview of the history and progress made with polio eradication and brought us up-to-date with the latest polio incidence figures and concluded with outlining the updated Gates Challenge, with the progress that has been made with donations. Kevin Sivyer then gave an overview of the new H&S policy. Clayton then launched the Thanks for Life project with a very polished presentation on how it will work and what we are asking the clubs to do. I concluded the plenary with a short address on the goals that we were aiming to meet.
