RIBI Conference 2009 -Conference Hotel etc
The conference should have taken place at the Usher Hall, just across the road from the HQ Hotel, the Sheraton Grand. Unfortunately the refurbishment work fell behind schedule and you can see that they are still at it. The result of this was the relocation of the conference to the Corn Exchange, a building that has seen better days, with coaches being used to ferry delegates from the various hotels. This was also a shortened conference in recognition that the RI convention is in Birmingham this year. The Business Session of the conference lived up to its reputation, but we did not have a repeat of lasts years crazy scenes. All but one of the resolutions put to the meeting were approved. Resolution 3 was lost. One novel aspect of the coaches used was that two of them were 70 seaters, with two seats on one side of the aisle and three on the other - all very cosy and surely only for children, which proved a mobility challenge for some Rotarians.
