It was a short walk to the Metro Station where we purchased three-day tickets that worked on the buses as well, after which we set off initially to find the place where the bus would leave from on Thursday to take us on a tour to Quebec (pronounced Kebek). This was at a tourist information office so we took the chance to find out some tourist stuff. We even got a 10% discount ticket for the little coffee bar opposite, which we were to revisit on a number of occasions during our stay. We bumped into Alastair whilst attempting to have lunch. He had just discovered a place with porno bingo - he does lead an exciting life. It was a very hot day and the weather forecast was not good for the following day so we decided that after lunch we would let Edwina have her ride on the Calรจche - a horse drawn carriage - which was part of her Christmas present from the children. This took us round the old town and was quite interesting although a little expensive.
We had already discovered that Montreal was an expensive place with beer twice what we would pay at home, and good wine off the radar. There was also about 13% tax added to everything and tips were expected at 15%. So something costing $10 in bar or restaurant could end up at $12.80! This was to be an expensive city for us. We returned to the Quality and had a rather fatty evening meal in the Grill attached. During the evening Pat and Nigel arrived so they joined us.
