Today we were at University College Birmingham for the Regional Final for Young Chef. Another superb event where the very best of our budding Chefs get the chance to strut their stuff on a bigger stage. Unfortunately our two candidates did not get placed but Cian & Jon accredited themselves well and were wonderful ambassadors for the District. A well organised and well supported event with some interesting comments from the judges and the Rotary coordinator. The judges were really surprised that we expected the candidates to prepare a three course meal in two hours, this was insufficient time to prepare a quality meal in their view. The Rotary coordinator said that in his District they only ask for one course to be prepared in the District competition, which causes problems later. Who knows, this may bring some changes but do not hold your breath.
The Saxon Hoard of gold treasure is on display at the Museum in Birmingham and we could not resist the temptation of spending some time there. It is truly magnificent and if you can get along to have a look I would recommend it.
