7th December Ponllanfraith's Businessmen's Lunch
Monday lunchtime I was a guest at the Pontllanfraith club's Businessmen's Lunch. I joined 230 other folk for a good meal followed by some first class entertainment together with what can only be described as some high quality fundraising. The guest speakers were Phil Bennett and Bryn Phillips. Neither of these two local stars needs any introduction and they entertained the guests with amusing and sometimes hilarious stories and jokes. Phil even took time to answer a couple of questions before he had to leave to attend the BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year Awards in Cardiff. Bryn, at 75 years of age, came on after Phil and just wowed the audience. After that came the draw and the auctioning of donated items for the club's charity fund, and what a success that was. I will not go into detail but suffice it to say that the organisers were more than delighted with the overall level of funds raised. I got home at 1800hrs, fully sober but I know nothing about the other guests in this regard. Rumour has it that some were still going in the early hours of the following day. A highly successful event with the added bonus of some potential new members being identified.
