31 - Official Visit Cardiff 10/8/09
I thought we had plenty of time when we left for the Novotel in Cardiff at 1210hrs. Little did I know that the city fathers had conspired to bring Eastern Avenue to a grinding halt by the cunning installation of a new bus lane. We sat or crawled for 20 minutes before I could turn round and widdle my way though the back streets of St Mellons, arriving bang on 1300hrs at the Hotel. I was not pleased. Nevertheless, we had a very pleasant lunch with the No.1 club in Wales (in terms of when Chartered) in a room that President Michael described as a near sauna - it was a touch warm. The pictures show me with Michael and with Charles, a visitor from North Carolina. Charles was visiting Cardiff as part of a European tour that will also take him to his father's grave near the Normandy Beaches. Bob and Edwina wish him well for this tour.

One other point, Bob, in case the protests start flooding in. Although Cardiff is official Club No.1 in Wales, do you remember, when we visited Llanelli, they said they had documentary evidence that their first meeting pre-dated Cardiff, and that they should really be Club No.1? You said you would not take sides in this dispute, so I thought I'd better remind you about this.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I do not want to start a debate but simply state the batting order as given in the District Directory.
